Music Monday! Rob Szabo
On my right hand, what you can see hanging down sometimes is a bracelet which my beloved wife gave me.
This episode is not work safe.
Rob tours across North America in his beat up '89 Dodge whose odometer he recently pushed past 450,000 kms (281,250 miles). He flunked the foreign policy test and now he's got a new problem to deal with."
At an August 16 campaign stop in Iowa, Michelle Obama said:
So our view was that, if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House. It isn't a coincidence either that I effected my lighting to look like a Saw set, see? Is a good and decent person? Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY). So the girls know that I was gone somewhere, but they don't care. I also took inspiration from some J-Horror, not just movies, but gothic influences of classic games like Castlevania. An hour to say whatever you want to the one you care most about. His live shows are garnering him an increasingly devoted fanbase of hardcore music lovers who often travel great distances to see him play in person. I won't claim that each one is sadder than the last, but each one of them explores a different "flavor" of that void in your soul, where your worst fears are always living, and if you step in, they might just grab you and tear you to pieces…MICHELLE OBAMA: [O]ne of the most important things that we need to know about the next President of the United States is, is he somebody that shares our values? I don't see who else she was talking about and ...At points, it was like a sinister mirror image of Liberace was staring back at me, bearing gems plundered from the murdered and a "fur" coat of human flesh. And after that, you'll be separated again. In desperate times, humans can perform incredible acts of self-sacrifice, but at what cost?
MOVEMENT III: Blood & tears
Liquid courses through us all. The last polls on CNN have shown him neck and neck with Hillary Clinton in Iowa -- not so good. He plays well over 100 dates a year in Canada and the U.S., from Toronto to Vancouver to the Alaska Highway, from San Francisco to New York City to Washington D.C. I don't see who else she was talking about and it doesn't -- the senator's defense doesn't make sense. So, I have to think it was a swipe at Hillary Clinton.SYLVESTER: And, Hank, this seems to be getting to be quite a messy sort of thing, when you've got spouses essentially jumping into the fray here.
SHEINKOPF: Well, it gets worse for Barack Obama. He's got to lash out somehow; he's got to try to close the gap. He flunked the foreign policy test and now he's got a new problem to deal with.
MOVEMENT I: Closing hours
I performed until I could perform no more, or at least I thought so. Obama has "got to lash out somehow; he's got to try to close the gap. However, as Media Matters for America noted, the full context of Michelle Obama's comments show that she was talking about her own family and did not refer generally or specifically to any other candidates.
After airing the cropped clip, Sylvester noted that Sen. Without courage, we are afraid. But day to day, tragedy somehow finds a way into our lives —
Friend, or friend-to-be, if you are feeling down, or perhaps have experienced the loss of a loved one, then perhaps you can relate to these. Obama "said his wife was not referring to Senator Clinton," but rather talking "about the importance of keeping their family values intact while on the campaign trail." Sylvester then asked New York Daily News columnist Michael Goodwin for his take on "the Obama/Clinton remarks," adding: "I know there are a lot of people saying that that was at least a sideswipe" at Clinton. His numbers have not been good. I need to stay awake, keep myself alert to catch this next outbound flight from YVR into the heart of the Graylands. I know there are a lot of people saying that that was at least a sideswipe.
GOODWIN: Yeah, I mean, I like to take these people at their word, but this one, I think, doesn't pass the smell test. That means I get up in the morning, I get the girls ready, I get them off, I go and do trips, I'm home before bedtime. Obama's comments. Yet, it was strangely uplifting.
What you are about to hear (and see, as my body movements do communicate this too) is piano music I've improvised that explores a lesser-seen part of me, the part that is drawn to the darkness of fantastic horror — sources like the ubiquitous Stephen King, but also Hellraiser and Books of Blood by Clive Barker, and my adoration for some really creepy, chime-laden movie scores like John Carpenter's Halloween, Fred Myrow's Phantasm, and even the moodier sections of Mike Oldfield's "Tubular Bells" (the intro theme of which was used for The Exorcist, altho certainly containing broad moments of gaiety in later movements). Goodwin responded: "I like to take these people at their word, but this one, I think, doesn't pass the smell test. I couldn't help, in my darker moments, to smile at him, so it was certainly not all serious — black comedy helps us deal with depression and death, but also runs the risk of perpetuating itself into a helpless cycle of laughing about the things we can do nothing about.
Such Great Sadness is partitioned into 6 movements. They just know that I was at home to tuck them in at night, and it keeps them grounded, and, and children, the children in our country have to know that they come first. And our girls do and that's why we're doing this. Where my mind was gone, my body was present, and I continued to share my songs, so that I might keep traveling…
MOVEMENT II: Shredded fabric
Without clothes, we are naked. But what happens when mutual distrust threatens to divide us?
MOVEMENT IV: Forbidden flight
On my way to the next city in a small private copter, I closed my eyes and saw us together, smiling. Try as I might, I could not play "purely happy songs", and everything that spilled out reflected the zeitgeist of this troubled, ruined time. So, I have to think it was a swipe at Hillary Clinton." Sylvester then asked Democratic strategist Hank Scheinkopf about Mrs. It terrifies me even more that I didn't see her in my visions, and I wonder what became of her.

"It's 5 AM and I'm so tired. the senator's defense doesn't make sense. ... and everywhere in between. We're in this race for not just our children, but all of our children.
As Media Mattersnoted, during the August 21 Lou Dobbs Tonight, Sylvester aired a cropped version of Mrs. It distorts space and time, and locks your good judgment in an isolated cell. ...What do you make of the Obama/Clinton remarks? It wasn't -- it's not logical when you apply it to the sentence that she said. Obama's remarks and claimed that she "apparently blast[ed] Senator Hillary Clinton."
From the August 22 edition of CNN's Lou Dobbs Tonight:
SYLVESTER: Democratic presidential contender Senator Barack Obama today said his wife was not aiming at Senator Hillary Clinton in remarks she made last week.
MICHELLE OBAMA [video clip]: So, our view is that if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House.
SYLVESTER: Senator Obama said his wife was not referring to Senator Clinton, but simply about the importance of keeping their family values intact while on the campaign trail. Or perhaps, even reminiscent of NIN's "The Perfect Drug", in all its absinthe-tinged madness.
I began to think of (some of) the saddest things possible, and let those emotions run through my fingertips. So, so we've adjusted our schedules to make sure that our girls are first, so while he's traveling around, I do day trips. What awaits me, I don't know, but I need to keep moving. Common bonds unite us to rise up against challenges. Good communication is fundamental to a healthy relationship, but when the world's social networks have shattered, it's not easy.
MOVEMENT V: Sustainance/survival
The cold weather plays tricks with your senses. Is he somebody that respects family? His fans always mention Rob's ever-present wry smile, and how he makes you feel like you’re in on a shared secret...I'm booked to perform a show at Hotel Pouchebonne tonight, and while I know it's but a hollow shell of its former glorious self, the regulars I used to know still frequent the place. I think I'll lay down awhile and dream of happier times, knowing those days will never come back, but hoping for some new security, some stability in this crazy world…"Download audio file (in-this-crazy-world.mp3)
I had a vision recently in which I found myself in an amalgamation of most of the post-apocalyptic scenarios I've ever read and seen; within this scene (which was so clear), I walked into a piano saloon, in the lobby of some devastated hotel, and found many downtrodden faces — some clearly imbibing themselves into irreversible toxicity. Joining me now are three of the best political strategists and analysts in the country: from Washington, Republican strategist and former White House political director, Ed Rollins.
ROLLINS: Good evening, Lisa.
SYLVESTER: And here in the studio, New York Daily News columnist Michael Goodwin and Democratic strategist Hank Sheinkopf. Hmph, music… giving them some glimmers of salvation in their living hell. My goal in sharing them is not to make you sadder, but to help you realize that even within the most overwhelming of sadnesses, there is greatness — some call it "the triumph of the human spirit", I call it being too damned stubborn to give up. And I hope these musics will move and touch you, and help guide you back to brightness.
"FEAR is a powerful motivator, but LOVE is even greater."
CNN's Sylvester again cropped Michelle Obama commentsFor the second day in a row, CNN's Lisa Sylvester, guest-hosting the August 22 edition of Lou Dobbs Tonight, aired a video clip of Michelle Obama, wife of Sen. [I]t's not logical when you apply it to the sentence that she said. Barack Obama (D-IL), saying, "So, our view is that if you can't run your own house, you certainly can't run the White House," and suggested that the comments were an attack on Sen. Thank you gentlemen for joining us.
GOODWIN: My pleasure.
SYLVESTER: First, let's start with you. Don't turn on yourself.
MOVEMENT VI: Lost again
Time, oh precious time. In light of that, interspersed between the pieces of this puzzle, you'll find rays of happiness, moments where I know I just won't give up and will continue to search for her, from piano bar to piano bar, making my way across the remains of a charred civilization.Thankfully, that isn't reality, nor should it be.
